The family of Antonia de Pantaleonibus was influential and wealthy with roots in Nardò that can be traced back as far as 1412. Palazzo Cariddi was a gift from her family on her wedding to Lucantonio Personè, a member of another powerful local family.

The room is a treasure trove of original features. These include the 16th Century paintwork on the walls, a vaulted ceiling in the lancet (spearhead-shaped) style and flooring in classic Italian Cocciopesto. This unique polished surface texture was formed by grinding local handmade bricks into fragments of various sizes.

Original friezes in the pale local Lecce stone have been carefully restored along with the ceiling cornice featuring the Pantaleonibus family crest, an atmospheric reminder of the passing centuries.

This is a spectacularly large room with dual aspect windows including  a grand floor-to-ceiling window with street views and access to the balcony.

In the late 1500s there was great excitement in the town at the wedding of Lucantonio Personè, son of one of Nardò’s most illustrious families, and Antonia de Pantaleonibus. The Palazzo was the wedding gift to the happy couple from Antonia’s wealthy parents.
